Neutron Star Systems Secures €3.64M to Ignite the Future of High-Power Space Propulsion

Neutron Star Systems (NSS), a leading market enabler for high power space missions, is excited to announce that it has successfully raised €3,640,000 in new funding. This significant investment comes at a pivotal time as NSS advances the development of its groundbreaking SUPREME thruster—an innovative electric propulsion system powered by high temperature superconductors. By harnessing decades of research on magnetoplasmadynamic (MPD) thrusters, the SUPREME technology is set to revolutionize space propulsion by offering superior operational flexibility, scalability, cost-effectiveness, and thrust efficiency. This new funding will support the next stages of development, starting with a 5 kW technology demonstrator aimed at reaching TRL 5, and eventually transitioning to a 20 kW thruster prototype designed in close collaboration with major industry stakeholders such as Airbus Defence & Space and renowned research institutions like the Institute of Space Systems at the University of Stuttgart. This latest injection of capital will enhance the company’s ability to streamline production processes, further refine the thruster’s design, and accelerate its market introduction. It also enables NSS to deepen its collaboration with the prestigious SUPREME consortium—a network of expert SMEs, research centers, and the German Aerospace Center—ensuring that the project benefits from a wealth of technological expertise and industry insight. With this funding, NSS is poised to not only reduce mission costs significantly through improved propellant mass savings but also set a new standard in electric propulsion efficiency for applications ranging from Automated Transfer Vehicles servicing spacecraft, to lunar and cis-lunar transportation, and Mars cargo missions. This is a major milestone for NSS as it continues to lead the way toward a future where advanced space propulsion technologies unlock unprecedented possibilities in space exploration and transportation.
