Befriend a Child Secures £52,847 to Transform Lives in North East Scotland

Befriend a Child is thrilled to announce that we have successfully raised £52,847 to further our mission of empowering school-aged children facing overwhelming life challenges in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. As Scotland’s only dedicated charity offering one-on-one and group befriending and mentoring services for young people in North East Scotland, this funding milestone is not only a testament to the generosity of our supporters, but it also reflects the belief in the potential of every child. Each year, we support up to 250 youngsters—children who often contend with chaotic households, parental struggles with substance abuse, illness, loss, and trauma—by pairing them with compassionate volunteer mentors and befrienders. The funds raised will be strategically invested in expanding our outreach programmes, enhancing our training for volunteers, and increasing our capacity to match more vulnerable children with the guidance and support they need. With every £1 donated generating an estimated £6.13 worth of social benefit, our new funding is set to create lasting, transformative impacts not only by boosting self-confidence and providing vital life skills, but also by nurturing essential social bonds and paving the way for brighter futures. By enabling us to reach even more children who are living with poverty, neglect, and other adversities, this funding will ensure that a larger community of young individuals benefits from our innovative befriending and mentoring approach.
