Working Landscapes Raises $5M to Transform Warren County's Food and Agricultural Economy

Working Landscapes is excited to announce that we have successfully raised $5,000,000 in new funding to bolster our mission of creating more sustainable livelihoods in Warren County, NC. As a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing the balance between environmental stewardship, social equity, and economic resilience, this investment will propel our efforts in strengthening the region’s food and agricultural economy. Our flagship initiative, the Warren County Food Hub, is set to benefit directly from this funding. The Food Hub is a visionary project comprised of two dynamic facilities designed to support local food systems and bring together community stakeholders. The first facility, the Warren County Produce Center, occupies the site of a historic flour mill and cotton gin, where local produce is stored, prepped, and packaged for delivery to regional schools and other customers. This innovative approach not only revitalizes a historic site but also enhances local food security through strategic partnerships with Warren County government. Complementing the Produce Center, Warren FoodWorks serves as a vibrant community kitchen, store, eatery, and gathering space nestled in a treasured historic commercial building on Warrenton’s Main Street. With this significant funding boost, Working Landscapes will expand programs and initiatives that ensure our landscapes work for everyone, fostering economic growth along with environmental and cultural sustainability. This investment marks a pivotal moment for the entire community and demonstrates the growing commitment to building a resilient, community-driven local economy that honors both our past and our future.
