Startup WAC Raises £200,000 in Seed Round to Revolutionize Hourly-Paid Workers' Pay Experience

We are thrilled to announce that WAC has successfully raised £200,000 in funding to further our mission of empowering hourly-paid workers to take control of their earnings and eliminate workplace disorganization. Founded by Georgina Fairhall in 2020, just a week before the national lockdown, WAC addresses the pervasive issues that Georgina experienced firsthand throughout her career in hospitality. Many hourly workers face challenges such as missed hours, unpaid breaks, and the pressure to work beyond their scheduled time. Since our inception, our goal has been clear: to ensure that every minute of work is accounted for, allowing employees to feel secure and validated in their financial well-being. With the recent influx of funding, we are set to refine and expand our offerings. The investment will aid in the development of enhanced technology solutions that resonate with our users, as well as bolster our team to navigate the complexities of scaling. Notably, in April 2024, we introduced our first revenue stream, achieving an annual recurring revenue of nearly £100,000 within just three months. With ambitious growth projections of reaching £18 million in turnover by year three, this funding enables us to make substantive strides toward that goal while simultaneously contributing to the tech sector's growth, recruitment efforts, and overall economy in the North. Despite challenges and skepticism about staying in Leeds instead of relocating to London, Georgina’s steadfast commitment to cultivating a supportive environment for low-paid workers remains unwavering. By securing this funding, WAC is poised to transform the experience of hourly workers and lead the way in creating a more equitable workforce.
