Great Yarmouth Powers the Future: Council Awards £50K Grant to Boost Coastal Enterprise and Offshore Energy Innovation

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is excited to announce a new milestone in supporting its vibrant community and bolstering economic growth. We are pleased to share that a funding round has successfully raised £50,000 to further our mission of transforming Great Yarmouth into a fast-growing coastal “Enterprise Town.” Serving nearly 100,000 residents across Great Yarmouth, Gorleston-on-Sea, and surrounding villages, our council is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for everyone while driving forward the region’s economic agenda. This funding injection will help us advance our ambitious six strategic priorities, ranging from economic growth and improved housing solutions to revitalizing neighborhoods and preserving our rich tourism, cultural, and heritage assets. As a major UK coastal resort, Great Yarmouth attracts an estimated 5.6 million day–trippers and 4.1 million staying nights annually, contributing more than £591 million to the local economy. This robust influx of tourism revenue complements our longstanding status as England’s offshore energy sector capital since 1965, which continues to provide opportunities in burgeoning fields such as offshore windfarm investments and gas platform decommissioning. The funds raised are earmarked to secure new job opportunities, upgrade infrastructure, and directly support projects within our enterprise zone and outer harbour. By investing in these critical areas, we are ensuring that both our current and future residents can benefit from new developments and investments in line with our vision.
