Feeding Hope: Shepparton Foodshare Raises $3 Million to Bolster Local Food Rescue and Support Vulnerable Communities

Shepparton Foodshare is proud to announce a major funding milestone, having successfully raised $3,000,000 to further its mission of rescuing and redistributing food to those in greatest need. Since its inception in 2012, this indispensable agency has distributed over 4.6 million kilograms of food—the equivalent of 9.2 million meals—to vulnerable members of the community. As the only local food rescue organization in the region, Shepparton Foodshare plays an essential role in ensuring that every donation directly benefits local people while streamlining the process for businesses and agencies alike. With the new investment, the organization will enhance its collection, warehousing, and redistribution services, reinforcing its capacity to support over 127 registered agencies that regularly rely on its services. The fresh infusion of funds will be directed toward expanding storage facilities, updating infrastructure to extend the shelf life of donated items, and strengthening partnerships with supermarkets, manufacturers, growers, and other food rescue agencies. By doing so, Foodshare not only prevents edible food from entering landfill but also guarantees that nutritious food reaches schools, emergency relief agencies, community meal programs, and churches across the Goulburn Valley and beyond. This funding will enable the organization to better serve a diverse population that includes individuals in emergency situations, children, homeless, indigenous communities, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds including new arrivals and refugees.
