All Aboard the Future: IndyGo Secures $8.6M Grant to Transform Indianapolis Transit

IndyGo is excited to announce a major funding milestone, having raised $8,600,000 to further enhance the public transit experience for the City of Indianapolis and its neighboring communities. The Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation, widely recognized as IndyGo, has long been the backbone of urban mobility in the region. Operating 30 fixed routes with approximately 2,708 stops, IndyGo serves roughly five million passengers annually, ensuring that residents have reliable, affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation options. This generous infusion of capital will enable the agency to invest in state-of-the-art transit technologies and infrastructure improvements designed to elevate service quality and safety for all users. Specifically, the funding will support a variety of key initiatives aimed at modernizing the fleet and expanding service coverage. Plans include upgrading vehicles with fuel-efficient and low-emission technologies, revamping transit stops with enhanced amenities for a comfortable commuting experience, and incorporating advanced safety features to protect passengers and drivers alike. In addition, a portion of the funds is earmarked for innovative demonstration projects on selected Commuter Express routes, which will explore new scheduling models and digital connectivity to streamline the daily commute for residents extending beyond Marion County, including into Johnson County.
